The Gastroenterologist reports directly to the section chief of gastroenterology. Physician will provide inpatient and outpatient consultations, evaluating clinic patients, and performing special procedures such as diagnostic EGD, snare polypectomy, variceal and non-variceal hemostasis, flexible sigmoidoscopy, liver biopsy, total colonoscopy, PEG, esophageal dilation with guidewire and paracentesis for optimal care. May also be assigned to perform other clinical duties within the service. The Physician assigned to Medical Service will be accountable for: (1) adhering to established Center policies and procedures and VA Directives. (2) Demonstrating leadership, accomplishment and commitment when providing support to the Chief of Medicine, Medical Service and Medical Subspecialty Staff and assistance to representatives to various department/services within the VA organization. (3) Implementing and complying with administrative review of the service's operations to assure compliance with all internal and external review requirements. (4) Completion of annual and mid-year performance evaluations for clinical staff under the gastroenterology section. (5) Clinical management of patients may include skills necessary for the stabilization of acute complications and may include the initiation of basic life support. (6) Patient education is primarily provided in an interactive setting which requires good interpersonal skills. (7) Under the direction of the Chief of Medicine shall be accountable for all clinical duties and assignments that he/she deems necessary. (8) Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM. The Physician will be required to share in on -call duties after regular tour of duty and on weekends and holidays.
