The role you’ll contribute:
The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Coordinator (MBS Coordinator), working collaboratively with the MBS Medical Director, and working independently, is responsible for the development, coordination and oversight of the bariatric surgery program. Management functions include, but are not limited to, ensuring continued compliance with MBSAQIP (Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement program) accreditation standards, maintaining relevant policies and procedures, patient education, outcomes data collection, patient safety and quality improvement efforts. MBS Coordinator will provide ongoing education and support to hospital staff regarding the clinically excellent and compassionate care of bariatric patients. MBS Coordinator will be a liaison between the facility and MBSAQIP and the surgical practice. MBS Coordinator will offer ongoing support to nursing, ancillary staff and to the bariatric patient from preadmission, inpatient stay and post-operative/discharge, to follow up care. The MBS Coordinator works closely with the MBSCR (Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer) to ensure timely submission of outcomes data.

Shares responsibility with the Metabolic and Bariatric Medical Director, of administering all aspects of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery program.
Assistance in development of MBSAQIP accredited center development, managing the accreditation process, ensuring continuous compliance with MBSAQIP requirements,
Serves as liaison between the facility and the MBSAQIP, and facility and surgeon office
Serves as liaison between surgeons performing metabolic and bariatric surgery and all general surgeons providing call coverage.
Participates with quality initiatives consistent with the MBSAQIP designation and quality and performance improvement efforts
Takes responsibility and ownership in partnership with Clinical Staff, for hospital compliance with MBSAQIP standards and clinical best practice.
Works closely with Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer (MBSCR) to ensure compliance with the collection and submission of reliable outcomes data to MBSAQIP database.
Education of relevant staff related to various aspects of the metabolic and bariatric surgery patient with a focus on patient safety
Supports the development and maintenance of written policies, procedures and protocols
Supports the development of written protocols and education of nurses detailing the rapid communication and basic response to critical vital signs that is specifically required to minimize delays in the diagnosis and treatment of serious adverse events.
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Basic computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Excellent verbal and communication skills
Self-motivated and self-directed
RN with current license that can take orders.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Minimum three years clinical experience preferred
Experienced RN, with some surgical care experience preferred
Broad clinical background in a variety of settings preferred.
