Description
Job Summary
Responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe patient environment. Performs a hybrid role of nursing care which includes assisting with patient care activities such as taking vitals and assessment, and supporting GI, Dermatology, and Oncology procedures. Collaborates with the healthcare team and provides compassionate and empathic family-centered care for the patients and families. Works under the supervision of an RN and in accordance with the hospital policies and procedures.
Job Specific Duties
- Provides support with vitals and assessments; informs RN of significant changes. Assists patients with activities of daily living to include, personal hygiene, nutrition and comfort measures.
- Reviews assignments and ensures room are setup. Maintains a clean environment and maintains patient rooms and nursing station at all times.
- Follows clean contamination procedures for high level disinfection of critical GI, dermatology, and oncology equipment. Provides support to physicians with set-up, equipment, and turnover.
- Performs all Lactose tests according to Policy and Procedure and completes the required assessment and documentation according to procedures.
- Coordinates all maintenances and repair on critical equipment per manufacture recommendations and standard of care.
- Orders OR and GI supplies including, but not limited to, high level disinfectant, clips, forceps, and scope equipment.
- Responsible for 24 hour on-call assignments for all GI emergent cases.
- Assists surgeons in controlling GI bleeds (i.e. clipping, banding, etc.) in emergent and non-emergent cases.
- Greets and welcomes patients, families, and visitors; provides encouragement and comfort. Communicates NCHS services and delivers excellent and timely service and support.
- Ensures all specimens are transported to lab/pathology based on direction of physician.
- Assists with transporting patients for special procedures and completes transport of patient during discharge process.
- Restocks supplies such as gloves, gowns, linen, medical equipment, and assists with room preparation and turnover.
- Performs other assigned tasks to promote efficient practice operation and contributes to the provision of quality patient care and works to anticipate patient needs.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
- CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant or EMT license within the State of Florida - must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- CPR BLS -American Heart Association BLS must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- 1-3 years GI experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High school education or equivalent preferred.
- SGNA Certification or Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) preferred.
- Able to be on-call for all GI emergent cases.
- Computer literate and experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred.
- Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate in a team environment.
- Strong time management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively work in a collaborative environment and follow the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or Nursing Leader.
- Ability to apply principles of evidenced-based practice, analytical thinking, and service excellence in practice.
